1and1 Hosting Reviews
Host Introduction
1&1 was founded as a reseller of technology products, including an early online service, in 1988 by Ralph Dommermuth (now CEO of United Internet, the public parent company of 1&1, and CMO of 1&1). Today 1&1 maintains more than 7 million contracts with both consumer and business users and has registered some 10 million domain names. It operates 5 highly-secure data centers housing 55,000 servers that process over 5 billion monthly emails.
Known for its comprehensive and affordable Internet products, 1&1’s unique business model positions it as a one-stop Internet shop. From domain registration to web hosting, site creation, technical support and cutting edge technology, 1&1 offers users every available resource to easily and affordably create and maintain an optimal web presence.
Sales:
We had no problems with sending an email with questions about our hosting requirements. The automated email we received mentioned a response can take up to 6hrs, although we received a response within 2hrs and all questions answered completely with total satisfaction.
There was a little wait on the toll-free line, although it wasn’t all that bad and after our talks with the helpful sales associate left feeling our questions and concerns were met with good results.
Support:
Same as sales, we liked seeing how the 1and1 support team is easily accessible.
Phone support was our preferred method and we were able to resolve our issues quickly and efficiently.
For those more complicated support issues, we preferred the email option for better resolution results.
Plans / Features:
The volumes of options is impressive.
1and1 has a hosting solution for just about any genres. The shared hosting plans (with both linux and windows options) are ideal for the beginner, while the VPS, Email Exchange, eCommerce and Dedicated services cater to webmasters, businesses to even fortune 500 level organizations.
Each solution is jammed back with add-on features that really help your online experience (Site builder, Marketing Tools to Free Domains to name a few).
Usability:
1and1 website is built for the sheer masses and its easy to see this with how well everything is laid out and explained.
From the website to the custom control panels, we were thoroughly impressed with the effectiveness of how everything was presented and tailored to the customer.
Conclusion:
1&1 introduced its distinctive approach to the U.S. in September of 2003 with an innovative and aggressive promotion that offered three years of web hosting for free. Since the January 2004 launch of its complete product line in the U.S., 1&1 has registered more than 650,000 users; already making it one of the country’s top 5 web hosts. In January 2007, 1&1 opened a 55,000 square foot data center opened in Lenexa, Kansas.
