Telnet with Windows Vista & Windows 7

You may sometimes need to or are required to run telnet command in dos command prompt for troubleshooting of webhosting issues. However,  you got error “telnet is not recognized” when you run telnet command. So what’s the problem.

Most probably, it’s because telnet command is not enabled in your computer. Here are instructions on how to enable telnet on windows vista and windows 7 as telnet is not enabled by default since from windows vista as for security concerns.

  1. Go to the Start menu and click on “Control Panel”
  2. Then go into Programs
  3. Click on “Turn Windows Features On or Off”
  4. Scroll down to “Telnet Client” and click the box
  5. Click OK
